Background: Barry was an outstanding all-around athlete for Brandywine Heights. He scored 817 points in his career for Coach Bob Millard. He played on Brandywine’s first team after they split from Kutztown High School. He was Berks County’s scoring leader in 1956 and 1957 (29.8 and 30.7 respectively) and scored 48 points against Oley in 1956. Barry was the first Berks player to score over 400 points in a single season. Barry was a four-year player at Elizabethtown College and scored 1,076 points. After graduation he was drafted by the Camden Bullets of the Eastern Basketball League. He coached varsity boys’ basketball at Nazareth High School and his teams won 9 League Titles and a District Title in 1982. His coaching record was 277-96. The basketball court at Nazareth High School was named ”’Barry Boyer Court.”’ Barry is a member of the Halls of Fame at Brandywine, Elizabethtown College, Nazareth High School, and was inducted the Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
