Background: Bob, at 6-8 was widely recognized as one the first dominant centers of his era. He led Mount Penn to the Class B state title vs. Irwin and scored 555 points in 28 games, a Berks County record at the time. He set a single game scoring record of 35 points in a game and was named Class B First-Team All-State. He started three years at Lafayette College and scored more than 1,000 points while averaging 19 PPG and 17 RPG in his best season. He set a single game scoring record with 47 points and played in the NCAA Tournament, the NIT, and was the 1956 MVP of the Richmond Invitational Tournament when Lafayette beat Penn State for the title. He was drafted by the NBA’s Cincinnati Royals and offered a contract but opted to play professionally in the Eastern League, where he played 8 seasons, mostly with the Allentown Jets. Bob later coached in the Eastern League and won two Championships with the Jets and was named Eastern Professional Basketball League Coach of the Year in 1967-68. He was inducted into the Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.
