Background: Donyell scored 1,581 points at Reading High School which made him the second all- time leading scorer in their storied history. He graduated in 1991 after playing for Coach Mike Miller. He currently ranks as Berks County’s 20th all-time leading scorer. He was named Pennsylvania First Team All-State as a senior. He received a basketball scholarship to the University of Connecticut where he played for Naismith Hall of Fame Coach Jim Calhoun. Donyell was the first McDonald’s High School All-American player at UConn. He was the unanimous pick as Big East Player of the Year in 1993-1994. He left college after his junior year and was picked 4th overall in the 1994 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Donyell played for 8 teams in his 16 year NBA Career. He was traded 40 games into his rookie season to Golden State. Donyell played with the Warriors until 2000 when he was traded to Utah Jazz. He signed with Chicago Bulls in 2002 in June 2005 Donyell signed with Cleveland Cavaliers. In 2008 Donyell moved to Seattle SuperSonics and from there to the 76ers. He retired at the end of the 2009 season. Donyell joined Comcast SportsNet as a 76ers’ analyst. In 2010 he became the assistant men’s basketball coach at George Washington University. Subsequently, he had stops as the assistant coach of the NBA D-League Maine Red Claws, Rider University and the University of Buffalo. Currently Donyell is head coach at Division 1 Central Connecticut State. He was inducted into the Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
