Background: George officiated for 39 years from 1957 to 1995. He officiated in the East Penn, Central Penn and Chest-Mont leagues and numerous championships in these leagues. He officiated four District 3 championship games as well as numerous Berks County and PIAA State Tournament games. George as also a college basketball official for 15 years. He was an outstanding player for two decades and led the Reading Hellenic Hoopsters to the Pennsylvania state title in 1951. He played on six city title teams over the years including Crystal Restaurant, Charmers Corner, Keystone Furnace, Reading Eagles Home, and Gaenzeles. George was a Military All-Star player at Fort Bliss in 1950. He coached the Reading Jewish Community Center team for eight years. The Berks County Basketball Officials Association has named their most prestigious award in honor of George Zeppos. He was a man of integrity who was greatly respected by his fellow officials, coaches and players. George was inducted into the Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
