Background: Jay scored 946 career points at Exeter and Brandywine Heights while being known for his great athleticism and incredible jumping ability. He averaged 23 PPG as a junior at Brandywine and 14.3 PPG as a senior at Exeter. He had 107 assists as a senior which at the time was a school record. Jay received a basketball scholarship to Division II Mount St. Mary’s where he played for four seasons and started for two. The Mounts’ four year record was 88-28 while Jay was a player. The Mount reached the Final Four in his junior year but lost in the national championship game. That entire team was elected to the Mount’s Sports Hall of Fame. Jay was selected with the eleventh pick in the sixth round by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1982 NBA Draft.
