Background: Jessie was named the first girls’ basketball coach at Schuylkill Valley in 1960 when the girls’ game was played with 6 players. She taught health and physical education and was a multi-sport coach for 34 years. Her determination helped to influence county administrators to conduct the first Berks County Girls’ Basketball Championship in 1973. She organized and coach the first Duke Delucia girls basketball All-Star game. Her basketball coaching record with Schuylkill Valley was 169-42 with SV winning a division or county championship in 14 of her 17 years coaching basketball. Jessie’s teams never had a losing season and they appeared in three Berks County Championship games. Jessie retired from coaching in 1977 but she continued to support Berks County girls’ basketball until she passed away in 2009. Inducted into Schuylkill Valley Wall of Pride in 2016.
