Background: Lloyd Wolf, a Cleveland, Ohio native, came to Holy Name High School in September, 1966 and led the boys’ basketball team to the State Championship in 1970 in only his fourth season. He became known as ‘the Dean of Berks County high school coaches’. He is the second all-time winningest coach in Berks County history (626-381). He has coached the most high school games (1,007) and coached the most seasons (40) in Berks history. His Blue Jay teams won two Philadelphia Suburban Catholic League titles in 1970 with Mike Zuber and Terry Brennan and in 1972 with Bobby Reese. Six of his players on the state title team have joined him in the Holy Name High School Hall of Fame. He won the 1997 Berks Conference Championship as well as District 3 Class A titles in 1998 and 1999. He led Holy Name to a PIAA Class A runner-up finish in 1998. Coach Wolf was selected as the Berks County Coach of the Year 10 times. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Berks County Chapter in 1997. He was the President of the Berks County Coaches Association for 20 years.
