Background: Neil scored 1,081 points at Reading High School which is 10th on their all-time leading scorers’ list. Neil started in three District 3 Championship games winning two titles under Coach Jim Gano. Reading’s 3 OT win over Steelton Highspire at the Hershey Arena for the District 3 title is remembered as one of the most thrilling games in Berks County history. As a senior, he was named All-Berks County, Big 15 by the Harrisburg Patriot News, and he received the Dr. Richard Kleppinger Trophy as the Outstanding Berks County Senior Male Player. At Princeton University, Neal was a four year letter winner and was the first freshman to start a varsity game. He was team captain his senior year and helped lead Princeton to two Ivy League Championships playing under Hall of Fame Coach Pete Carril.
