Background: Pete was a three year starter at Reading High School who led the Red Knights in scoring as a senior in 1936. He was named first team All-Central Penn League as a junior and senior. His skills and scoring ability were legendary on the streets of Reading. After high school he played on the Regar’s Sweet Shop amateur team while the team posted a 144-8 record. The team won three consecutive City League and Berks Amateur titles and in 1939 they won the state YMCA and international YMCA tournament crowns. Pete was named the outstanding Berks Amateur Athlete in 1937. He played professionally for Hazleton, Pottsville and Reading in the highly acclaimed Eastern League. Pete coached the Reading Central Catholic High School team in 1942. He was a highly respected high school and college basketball official from 1942 to 1977. Pete is a member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and a 1978 inductee into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame Berks County Chapter.
