Background: Dick Braucher was a 1965 graduate of Kutztown High School where he played for Coach John Silan. He is generally regarded as one of the best players in the storied history of Kutztown basketball. He scored 1,668 points which is eighth on the all-time Berks County list. He was selected to the All-Berks County basketball team four years (1962-65). As a senior, he was named to the prestigious Parade All-American first team which had five players on it including eventual Naismith Hall of Famers Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul Jabaar) and Pistol Pete Maravich. He was also named All-State. The 6-4 guard went on to play at North Carolina State, where he was a captain his senior year. Braucher also played with the Exeter Black Knights who won the National Amateur Basketball Association Championship in 1970. Dick was inducted into the Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.
