Background: Joe earned Second Team All-State honors as a senior at Reading High in 1961 playing for Coach Pete Carril. He was named to The Reading Eagle/Times Dream Team of the 1960s. Joe led Reading to the District 3 championship and to the Eastern State Finals. He scored 419 points his senior year, was named First Team All-Central Penn Conference and was a member of the Harrisburg Big 15 All-Star Team. Joe was recruited by the University of Cincinnati when they were the top ranked team in the country. He later played for Kutztown University. While serving in the military in Hawaii, Joe led his team to a base championship. He had a very successful career in the Reading City Leagues. He coached basketball for many years in the JCC Youth leagues and the Reading School District. He was inducted into the Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
