Background: Cheryl was a member of Holy Name High School’s 1972 Philadelphia Suburban Catholic League (SCL) Championship team. In 1973, she led her team to a second straight league title as well as the Allentown Diocese Championship. She was named First Team All-SCL in 1973. Cheryl attended the University of Scranton and was instrumental in starting their women’s basketball program in 1974. She was the Middle Atlantic Conference MVP when the Lady Lions won the MAC title in 1977 and was subsequently awarded the Student Athlete Award for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC). Cheryl began officiating high school girls’ basketball in 1979 and quickly became one of the top officials in Berks County. She later officiated collegiately at the Division I, II, and III levels. Her accomplishments as a basketball official have no peer in the county. She retired in 1995 after officiating the P.I.A.A. Girls Quad-A State Championship game.
