Background: Ron Krick was a 6-9 center who graduated from West Reading High School in 1961. He is the Berks County career scoring king with 3,174 points, a total that broke Wilt Chamberlain’s Pennsylvania state scoring record of 2,252. As of 2019, Krick is still the 4th leading scorer in Pennsylvania history. His high school playing career is legendary. On Christmas Eve of his senior year in high school he dislocated his shoulder and missed 6 games. He returned to play with his right arm in a brace and could only use his left arm and scored 26. He led the West Reading Cowboys to three straight PIAA Class C state titles in 1959, 1960 and 1961. Ron was awarded a full basketball scholarship to the University of Cincinnati when they were the kings of college basketball with Naismith Hall of Fame player Oscar Robertson in the backcourt. He played four years at Cincinnati but injuries limited his effectiveness. Cincinnati won the Missouri Valley Conference crown his senior year. He was drafted into the NBA by the Cincinnati Royals but shoulder injuries short circuited his career. Ron finished his playing career with the local Exeter Black Knights who won the National Amateur Basketball Tournament in 1970. Ron was named the MVP of the tournament. He is a member of the West Reading High School Hall of Fame, the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame and the Berks Chapter of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame.
